WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
New: A Rainbow of Sound Musical Theatre Special for Children
A Rainbow of Sound features the Emerald Harp story. This is a delightful story that takes place in Scoltand. Children have the opportunity to participate and play the harp during the program. Christina Tourin, dressed as the fairy queen, has the "elfin" children playing and creating beautiful harmonies on six Rainbow colored harps while children listen and watch the story unfold.

New: The Power of Harp Therapy Enhances our Creativity During Changing Times
Find out how harp therapy is being used around the world to unleash creative potential. There are five distinct qualities that Harp Therapy Practitioners address when administering therapeutic music. Christina will show you how you can instantaneously create harmonic music. She will delight you with a concert of diversified genres of music.
New: Develop a New Career: Introduction to "Rainbow of Sound" Facilitating Program
Would you love to have a new career? There is a way! Christina has developed a new training program that lines up a perfect template for anyone to follow. Everything is provided in the Rainbow of Sound Facilitating Program including lessons, contracts, and recital materials. During this workshop, she will demonstrate how to implement the Rainbow of Sound Harp Ensembles that are beginning all around the world. She will show you how to use this program in therapeutic settings and how you can supplement your income or develop a new one. No harp needed for this lecture. For beginning to advanced harp players.

1. CELTIC CIRCLE OF MUSIC with the ANCIENT CELTIC TECHNIQUE OF MASSAGE.
The harpers of Ancient Ireland were required to have three strains of music at their command: Suantraighe - to create slumber and repose, Goltraighe - to bring about valour and bring a person to tears and Gentraighe - to set the foot a-tapping and create a joyous atmosphere. Working at San Diego Hospice, Christina Tourin works with aromatherapy/massage therapists who perform an Ancient technique of Celtic massage while she plays the circle of music around the patient. Find out the qualities of these strains and how to link the music in a seamless journey. Learn how to modulate from one feeling of music to another. A set of modulations will be given to each participant. For all levels of players, non-harpists and health-care providers.
2. JOIN IN Workshops
JOIN IN with Christina Tourin on music from around the world. Her JOIN IN Series features music with CD accompaniment of some of the best back up musicians in the country. Play music from Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii, Mexico, France, Spain, Isle of Man, Italy and Austria. Hear yourself play with an ensemble. This workshop is for all levels - very beginners to the most advanced players. It will be lots of fun.
3. INDIVIDUALIZING MUSIC
Learn how to select music, play the music and how music affects us on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. This workshop is the underlying basis for training in Therapeutic Music as used in Harp Therapy Programs. This workshop is for harpists, musicians, non-musicians, caregivers and those interested in finding out how to choose music for either patients or for the audiences they perform for. Instruments are not necessary for this workshop.
4. USING THE HARP AS A THERAPEUTIC TOOL IN MUSIC THERAPY
Christina will present the material from her newly released book: Harp Therapy - A Cradle of Sound and discuss the elements of Harp Therapy, the current research, and demonstration of using the harp therapeutically. The workshops will also contain some selections of performance. She will be available for booksignings after the event.
5. MEETING AND MASTERING THE MODES
Use ingenious, lever-free variations on scales you've known all your life to add immediate variety, interest, and emotional range to your harping. How to use modal accompaniment patterns with improvisation to create new music, and to get much more from the pieces already in your repertoire. Create your own music without relying the the written page. Modes are a musical language of infinite resource. Even rank beginners will love this! Intermediate and advanced harpers will learn numerous ways to freshen the music they know and to produce satisfying new work. Harp teachers will find it invaluable.
6. SOUND, the HARP and the CHINESE FIVE ELEMENTS for Healing - workshop
Christina Tourin will present information on the Chinese Five Elements and the corresponding five modes that musicians can use to balance Wood, Fire, Earth, Water and Metal energies. The instrument focused on is the small harp but this workshop can be used by any musician.
When we understand the Chinese approach to health - that of achieving and maintaining balance - we can begin to see how the different modes, whether Chinese or Western, influence our emotional lives. The musician may harmonize with the mood of a patient or activate a change in the patient's emotional state by choosing a mode to contrast.
Participants will receive 5 pieces of music written in each of the Chinese modes.
7. LEARN TO PLAY THE HARP
You will leave the course having learned the basic fundamentals of playing a small harp and composing a piece of music. Don't miss this truly inspirational day. Learning to play harp is easy and fun!
8. PRIVATE LESSONS
During Christina's travels, she is often available for Private lessons.
9. CONCERTS
Christina will perform a collection of music from the British Isles, Scandanavia, South America and her own Original Compositions. In addition to her lively tunes, many people will have the opportunity to walk a labyrinth to her soothing music.
10. WALKING THE LABYRINTH
Why the astonishing and sudden popularity of the labyrinth? Walking the labyrinth fulfills six important contemporary needs: deepening spirituality; inwardness and connection to soul; access to intuition and creativity; simplicity; for integration of body and spirit; and intimacy and community. The labyrinth addresses all of these six human needs, transforming the lives of those who take the time to walk its circuits.
The labyrinth is a container for life, life in all its glories and griefs, its heartaches and joys. The labyrinth welcomes all experiences into its circuits, teaching us to enter more deeply into the experience of life itself.
Walk for ILLUMINATION, Walk for Gratitude (Thanksgiving) , Walk for Celebrations (Birthdays, Anniversaries), Walk for the Seasons (the Solsctice), Walk the Labyrinth for JOY.
